Last year a new Mile-a-Minute vine (Persicaria perfoliata) infestation was discovered in Davenport, NY.
This aggressive vine can grow up to 6 inches a day in ideal conditions, overtopping and smothering small trees and shrubs underneath it. The seeds are spread by birds and can float for 7-9 days. This is the first population of this high-priority species reported in Delaware County, and it is very important that it be contained.
We are calling for volunteers to help us manage this 3.6 acre infestation by hand-pulling the vines where they are growing near tributaries.
Please contact Dan Snider-Nerp at dsnider-nerp@catskillcenter.org with any questions.
Details for the event will be emailed upon registration. Please plan to bring gloves, a lunch, and a water bottle.
