This invasive plant hopper poses a serious threat to the Catskill region’s grape and fruit operations as well as hardwood tree species. A panel of regional experts will share the latest updates, how you can help slow the spread and mitigate the risk to your property.
Our speakers include:
John Thompson: John is Catskill Regional Invasive Species Partnership (CRISP) Director at the Catskill Center in Arkville, NY. John is currently training people to look for and report spotted lanternfly. John will talk about the initiatives in the Catskills region to survey for spotted lanternfly and tree-of-heaven.
Jim O’Connell: Jim is a Sr. Ag. Resource Educator with Cornell Cooperative Extension of Ulster County (CCEUC). Jim will present a brief look at the SLF outreach CCEUC has done so far as well as future outreach
Brian Eshenaur : Brian is a Sr. Extension Associate for Cornell University’s Integrated Pest Management program. His work focuses on crop problem diagnosis and pest management. He is currently leading a statewide effort on Spotted Lanternfly education and outreach. Brian will talk about SLF impacts on crops other than grapes.
Zach Waltz: Zach is the Director of Operations for Waltz Vineyards Estate Winery in Manheim, Pennsylvania. Zach will offer a grower’s perspective of the impact SLF has on grape vines, as well as input on management practices.
