Join our CRISP Partners Virtual Meeting to learn about the interaction of deer, invasive earthworms and invasive plants. Our featured speaker, Dr. Andrea Dávalos will present, “Passenger or driver? Gauging Combined Impacts of Deer, Invasive Earthworms and Invasive Plants”. Many invasive plants are abundant and widespread across New York State, generating concern among land-managers and conservation practitioners. However, the perceived negative effects of invasive plants may be a product of co-occurring agents of change, such as white-tailed deer herbivory and invasive earthworms. Using swallow-wort as a case study, Dr. Dávalos will discuss the single and combine effects of multiple agents of change on native vegetation.

Dr. Andrea Dávalos is an Assistant Professor in the Biological Sciences Department at the State University of New York at Cortland. She obtained her PhD in Natural Resources at Cornell University. Her research is motivated by a strong interest in conservation and in the development of tools to restore natural ecosystems .She is particularly interested in addressing issues pertaining to the ecology and management of biological invasions and the factors that drive successful control programs. Her long-term collaborative research combines experimental and modeling approaches to assess impacts of invasive plants and success of management programs.
